The Branding Breakthrough: How Canned Goods Clothing Started

TURNED CANNED GOODS INTO A COOL CLOTHING BRAND

Imagine being a college freshman, juggling classes and maybe hitting the party scene, when suddenly you get a brilliant idea that could change the fashion world.

That’s exactly what happened to Easton Dana. This ASU student isn’t just acing his classes; he’s also the genius behind Canned Goods Clothing, a brand that’s shaking up fashion packaging in the coolest way.

Spoiler: it involves metal cans you actually want to keep. 🥫

NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU FIND YOUR IDEA...

How did Dana come up with this idea?

Picture him wandering around a grocery store, when he spots a bunch of canned soups. Instead of thinking about dinner, he gets this flash of inspiration.

Why not use those cans for something way cooler than just soup?

Cans are practical for shipping and can be used as flower pots or pencil holders. 🌼✏️

That’s when it hit him.

Dana figured out that if he used cans to package clothing, he could solve the waste problem and give people something fun to enjoy after they open their new tee.

How many ideas like that did you have?

Unique Packaging: Making a Statement with Metal Cans

FROM IDEA TO BUSINESS

The great idea will always be just an idea without ACTION.

Dana didn't waste his time on dreaming about the business... he dove right in and started Canned Goods Clothing.

His brand features stylish clothes packed in metal cans. And here’s the twist: when you buy a shirt from Canned Goods, you also get a can filled with wildflower seeds. Dana wants you to plant a garden right from your new packaging. 🌸

Dana’s goal was to find a better alternative to plastic packaging.

“The big thing about Canned Goods was finding sustainable alternatives to plastic packaging,” he said.

And he’s not just talking; he’s making it happen with every can that gets shipped out. It’s like adding a little bit of good vibes to each purchase.

FROM SNEAKERS TO CANS

How did Dana turn this idea into a successful business? It wasn’t easy. He tried selling sneakers and worked with a clothing brand called Immature Clothing. Through these experiences, he learned how important packaging is in the fashion industry.

“I knew the packaging had to be different and it had to set me apart,” Dana said.

And it sure did.

By choosing cans over plastic, he made his packaging as unique as the clothes inside.

Branding with a Purpose: Commitment to Sustainability

Dana isn’t just about cool packaging. He is on a mission to make a real difference for the planet. For every T-shirt sold, a portion of the proceeds goes to Team Seas and The Ocean Cleanup to help clean up plastic waste from the ocean. His commitment is genuine. 🌊

“I wanted to donate so that every person who bought Canned Goods could feel like they’re making a difference,” Dana said.

It’s like getting a warm, fuzzy feeling with every tee you buy.

Social Media Buzz: Leveraging Platforms for Brand Visibility

Dana isn’t relying on just cans and donations to spread the word.

His social media game is strong.

Instead of flashy ads, Canned Goods Clothing’s social media shows creative ways to reuse the cans. He is committed to make at least 4 reals a day and advertise only those that went viral.

It took him 6 months to wake up one day and realize he had sold $60k worth of canned goods. You might call it overnight success, but I call it commitment and dedication.

Dana’s TikTok and Instagram are full of cool DIY projects—like turning cans into flower pots or pencil holders. 📸

From Dorm Room to Success

Dana’s journey from a dorm room idea to a full-blown brand got a big boost from ASU’s Venture Devils program. This program gave him the resources and connections to take his idea to the next level. Plus, he got great advice from Brad Weisman, a mentor who helped guide him.

“It’s more than just a cool T-shirt—it’s a T-shirt that’s trying to make sustainability important with its packaging,” Weisman said.

Future of Branding: What’s Next for Canned Goods Clothing

So, what’s next for Dana?

He’s got big plans. He’s working on expanding his brand and teaming up with Grand Canyon University (GCU) for their “Green Week” event.

Plus, he’s planning to release ASU-themed merchandise in cans. Imagine showing off your school spirit while making a positive impact. Isn't Cool?
